The Sun Smock story

I'm Lauren Curtis, founder of Sun Smock.

Have you ever felt the heat of the sun on your skin while driving?

During spring and summer I felt like I was getting roasted by the sun during every car ride. I hated knowing I was exposing my skin to the intense Australian sun whenever I got behind the wheel. Sunscreen felt like overkill because I was going from an indoor location (eg. home) to another indoor location (eg. gym), so the only time I would be exposed to the sun was in the car. I don't like the feeling of greasy sunscreen, so I started searching for a UPF 50+ sun protection garment specifically for driving. I couldn't believe that the only option I could find were tight fabric sleeves you had to pull over your arms. But what about the sun exposure on your chest and shoulders?

When I realised there was a gap in the market I decided to make my own. The result: Sun Smock, a UPF 50+ sun protection garment accredited by ARPANSA (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency). It's also way more comfortable than those tight sleeves (and looks better, too).

UVA rays contribute to DNA damage, premature skin ageing and skin cancer. Most glass blocks UVB but not UVA rays, leaving you exposed every time you get behind the wheel. When you think about how often you drive every day, week, month and year, it's frightening to think about how much sun exposure that adds up to.

Designed to be worn over clothing, Sun Smock is the quickest and most comfortable solution for sun-safe driving. Its UPF 50+ fabric blocks 98% of the sun's rays the moment you put it on; also eliminating the chance of 'missed spots' often experienced with sunscreen. When worn properly, Sun Smock protects your chest, shoulders, arms, the backs of your hands and thighs (with the Sun Smock Long) from the sun.

Please join me in making sun-safe driving the new normal.

Smock on,
Lauren x
