Sun Smock is a UPF 50+ sun protection garment designed to shield your skin from dangerous UVA rays while driving.

Slip it on over your clothing for instant sun protection without the greasy skin.

The sun emits UVA and UVB rays.

UVB rays cause sunburn and skin cancer, while UVA rays can cause DNA damage, sunburn, skin cancer and premature skin ageing.

Most glass blocks UVB but not UVA rays. Windshields are treated to block some UVA, but side, back, and sunroof windows generally aren't.

Sun exposure in the car accumulates over time, so being proactive about sun safety now is imperative. Shield your skin from the sun while driving with Sun Smock.

Sun Smock protects you while you drive from an indoor location to another indoor location, like your home to the supermarket.

You may not want to apply sunscreen all over your body when you'll only be exposed to the sun for short periods of time, and that's where Sun Smock comes in handy.

If you plan on going from an indoor location to an outdoor location where you'll take Sun Smock off, sunscreen needs to be worn.

Sunscreen should always be worn on the face.

Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) indicates how much UV radiation is able to penetrate a fabric and reach your skin. UPF 50+ fabric blocks 98% of the sun's rays, and is the highest achievable in the world.

Truck driver's sun damage

This man drove a truck for 28 years, and the resulting sun damage can be seen on the side of his face closest to the window.

"Ultraviolet A (UVA) rays transmit through window glass, penetrating the epidermis and upper layers of dermis. Chronic UVA exposure can result in thickening of the epidermis and stratum corneum, as well as destruction of elastic fibers. ... UVA has also been shown to induce substantial DNA mutations and direct toxicity, leading to the formation of skin cancer."

The birth of Sun Smock

  • The prototype (2020)

Initially, Sun Smock Long was made up of two components: the top (now its own garment altogether) and a detachable bottom piece. While the goal was versatility, the practicality of the design fell short. It didn't look very nice, and the process of detaching and reattaching both components proved to be cumbersome.

  • The final product (2023)

After brainstorming with our manufacturer, we decided the smartest solution was the simplest one: offer a long version of the Sun Smock and a short one. If you often wear clothes that show your thighs, opt for the long Sun Smock. If your legs are usually covered, go for the short Sun Smock!
